The Area Selection section of the Weather Lab specifies the locations of the texture that will receive the effects specified in all the other sections. Red areas in the section preview correspond to areas of the texture that will receive the weathering effect, while black areas correspond to locations that will remain unchanged.
The properties appearing in this section are identical to those of the Noise Lab. If a custom noise has been placed in the Weather Lab's input, click one of the "Select Type..." buttons and select "Use Input" in order to make use of it.
As mentioned previously, red areas correspond to areas of the texture that will receive the weathering effect. Thus, increasing the Brightness property, which causes more areas of the noise to appear bright red, will result in the effects being applied to a larger amount of the image. Similarly, increasing Contrast, which causes sharper transitions between red and black areas, will result in sharper transitions between areas of the texture that will or will not receive the effects.
